ABOUT PORTELLI DESIGNS
The stunning creations by Portelli Designs are masterfully created using a style called the ‘Polly Method’ – using a series of specifically sized triangles to create form and a sense of movement. Due to the flat nature of a triangle, there are endless cuts, folds, and welds to create the curve of the human form. The measurements must be precise so that the end result looks as natural as possible.

The length of time taken to complete a piece is determined by the size and detail, but on average, a life-sized sculpture takes around 8 weeks.

MEET THE ARTIST
CLAUDE PORTELLI
An electrician and fabricator by trade combined with a passion for music, and the desire to create from an early age – Adelaide-based Claude Portelli was always going to tap into his true artistic nature. The accumulation of a lifetime of experience and growth has resulted in mature and sophisticated sculptures.

With the heart of a musician, the nature to create something beautiful and memorable comes naturally to Claude, to bring something to life through a medium as raw as welding. His most recent piece of work, ‘The Ballerina’, took 2 months to complete and encapsulates the nature of movement to music, pausing a moment and capturing it for the ages.

His path continues forward, with an unscripted journey and un-defined destination, Claude Portelli embraces change and challenges himself to be inspired by the ‘everyday’ grace of the world.

Shaped by music and forged in heat.
